Halloween Town – Burbank, CA

Halloween Town in Burbank

Halloween Town in Burbank lives up to its “Nightmare Before Christmas”-esque name—it truly is Halloween here all year round. The store used to be in North Hollywood, but a few years ago they moved to this bigger location and really decked it out. This is what part of the inside looks like!

Halloween decorations

It’s such fun to browse through the rooms while hearing the “Munsters” theme and The Ghastly Ones on the sound system. Unfortunately, I didn’t take very many photos (and the ones I did get were fuzzy).

My favorite items are the vintage-esque goodies like candy jars and cameo necklaces, but they also have tons of costumes, accessories, decorations and a great book section that even has some Shag stuff. So, you might be wondering, “What does all this have to do with tiki?” OK, I’ll get to that…

Cursed on Voodoo Island t-shirt

I found this Rock Steady “Cursed on Voodoo Island” thermal shirt with tikis on it in the sale section for about $20. From what I can tell, it doesn’t seem to have any relation to the Boris Karloff movie “Voodoo Island.”

Boo!

If you’re in the neighborhood, I’d also suggest a stop at 8-Ball, which is just down the street. Just beware of hitchhiking ghosts!

Harajuku Lovers is, Like, Totally Tiki

Harajuku Lovers Hawaiian Girl Baby Cuddle bag

Continuing my theme of things I love going together with something else that I love is this summer’s Harajuku Lovers lines by Gwen Stefani, which featured…tikis!

Their availability is pretty limited now, but there is one bonus to not discovering these purses until September: sales! This bag was originally $88, but throw in extra extra clearance, Labor Day coupons and other Macy’s magic and it somehow ended up costing twenty-something dollars.

Tikis!

A peek at the tikis on the inside of the Harajuku Lovers Hawaiian Girl “Baby” Cuddle bag. More images of my “Fatal Attraction to Cuteness” after the jump!

Tikis at Sea World, San Diego

After our stop at Freaky Boutiki, Mr. Baseball and I joined the Memorial Day masses at Sea World. (This was part of our San Diego theme park trifecta—San Diego Zoo, Sea World and Wild Animal Park in one weekend. Crazy, yes.)

Apparently, Chez Shamu once had quite a bit of tiki influence, even a Hawaiian Punch Village, but that’s all gone now.

Indeed, this was the only tiki I was able to spot. For shame!

There were also these glass fishing floats decorating the park’s barbecue restaurant (whose name escapes me) and the nearby tree.

Lastly, there was this dude sporting the Grumpy’s Tiki Hut shirt in front of us at one of the shows. You go, dude.

Anyway…who wants to guess which was my favorite animal that we saw at Sea World?  Hint: It was not aquatic. And Mr. Baseball is disqualified from guessing.
